How Do you Remove Trees and Not Damage My Property?

Ropes and cables are some of our best friends in this regard. For example, if a tree is leaning towards your property, then simply hacking away at it will cause your tree to fall on your home, regardless of how we cut it, because gravity will pull it down onto your property. Therefore, to make the job easier, we will remove limbs that threaten your property first. Afterwards, we will use cables and to provide a counter-force so the tree does not fall onto your property. With cranes and machinery as well as specific cutting techniques at the branches and the base of the tree, we will cut and move the tree, so that it is away from your property and safely on the ground. We then shred up the tree and are able to provide you with the wood chips and/or the mulch. If you want the stump ground or removed, we are able to talk about that before or after we remove the tree, depending on your preference.

How Do You Get to the Very High Parts of the Tree without Hurting Yourself?

Austin Treeworks hires only skilled arborists who are licensed and certified. We do not allow people to experiment with their lives in a tree that is 100 feet tall. That is not just for liability's sake. It is because we care about the safety of our workers, so we want them to be prepared. Many of our tree workers and crews spent their whole lives in trees, so they grew the skill as time went on. However, we have to test our workers, so before they begin to work with us, we establish a baseline they must accomplish in order to climb. We give them tree climbing gear, safety equipment, and the rope they will need. Once they pass our tests, then they have the skills to climb safely without causing injury to themselves or your property.

How Often Should I Prune My Own Trees?

Picture of a couple fruits in a fruit treeSome fruit in a fruit tree
We do not recommend you prune your own trees, because you most likely do not know what you are doing. We have heard cases of people pruning their own trees and allowing their tree to be so vulnerable that an infection pretty much killed off the whole tree. When you prune to the point of your tree being naked, you leave your tree ripe for insects with different diseases and fungus to enter into the cut branches of your tree, allowing fungus and bacteria to seep into the tree and kill off the entire tree. This does not only happen to plant lovers. Even "experienced" arborists make this error every once in a while, and when it happens, we have the fungicide to treat it.

If you do decide to prune your own trees, it should be no fewer than three years. A touch may be needed every couple of years; however, if you are doing it more than that, you may be pruning solely for your own benefit and not that of the tree's lifespan. Pruning and trimming does not necessarily mean healthier trees. Tree trimming and pruning are able to make the tree healthier by diverting nutrients and resources to healthier plants, allowing for greater productivity. However if you cut off the entire tree's branches, you are able to tell how that would leave the tree quite.....vulnerable.

Hire a professional to trim and prune your trees.

How do I Know if My Tree is Infected with Oak Wilt?

You probably do not know, because it is even difficult for professional arborists to make a diagnosis of it, especially if it is based off one look on a tree. It is such a hard diagnosis to make, because the best way to describe it is based on its pattern of spreading. Many other tree diseases are able to cause a similar pattern to that of oak wilt, so having a professional keep watch of the tree and analyze the spread of the fungus may be the best (and most economical) way to do things. Oak wilt may be misdiagnosed if its spread is hampered by different treatments of other misdiagnosed diseases. Instead of taking a blind shot with some random pesticide, we recommend you wait it out to be sure you are attacking the right bug rather than shoot blindly and hope to hit it, while using the customer's money to take a guess. Over at Austin Treeworks, we value our customers money and will act only when we have sufficient evidence to make a diagnosis of oak wilt, and then we will act accordingly.
