There is More to Taking Down a Tree than Simply Using a Chainsaw

Imagine if some person wanted to take down a building and decided the best way to do so would be to get dynamite and blow up a whole side of the building? What would you think? Most likely you would want to make sure people are safe, how you would take down the building in a secure manner, where your equipment would go, and so on. Similarly, there is more to taking down trees than just hacking away at it with a chainsaw. For example, you have to be sure you have adequate space around the tree for it to fall without damaging anybody or any property, which means you need a radius of at least 1.5 times the height of the tree. You have to be sure of which direction you want the tree to fall, lest it falls the opposite way. Then you have to make the right chips and notches in the tree to get it to bend and tilt towards the direction you want it to go. If the tree is leaning away from where you want it to fall, it is best to call a professional before you cause it to fall the wrong way. You also need to make sure that you assess the structure of the tree, its limb architecture, how close it is to power lines, buildings, and other structures, and see if your equipment is able to be in the right position for it to take down the tree (it would be unfortunate if you brought a crane, only to find out there is not enough space for the crane to pull the tree down). Most importantly, you need to make sure your team is wearing all the proper safety equipment and protective gear, because the most important thing in taking down a tree is the team you are working with.
